In this, the fifth in the Marc LaRose Mystery Series, Private Detective, Marc LaRose has been hired by a group of concerned citizens from New York City's Jamaican community to look into the arrest of one of their own, a young migrant working at an apple orchard in upstate New York. Having been charged in the rape and murder of the free-spirited daughter of the orchard's owner, Marc's investigation takes him from New York's Northern Tier along the New York side of Lake Champlain, across the Lake to Burlington, Vermont and back as he attempts to piece together a trail of clues and broken hearts left by a young woman's desire to escape her domineering parents and a life she had not chosen or wanted.
